Faculty Coaching

If you are a new faculty member making the transition from graduate student to professor, a more seasoned faculty member transitioning from pre-tenure to post-tenure, or an academic writer who wants to live up to their full potential, individual coaching may be helpful to you. I work with faculty to identify problems, create and implement individualized solutions, develop a strong network of stage-approriate mentors, connect with communities of support and healing, and sustain key changes in your professional and personal life. My goal is to help you locate your personal power in order to work within the Ivory Tower effectively, while also maintaining your integrity, passion, and a spirit of joy.

Coaching Helps Faculty Members To:
  • Identify your research, writing, teaching, and personal goals
  • Consciously align your time with your institutional priorities and individual values
  • Negotiate conflicts in your workplace with confidence and clarity
  • Develop and maintain healthy professional relationships with your colleagues
  • Manage your stress on a daily basis without sacrificing your mental, spiritual, or emotional health
  • Forge a more productive work life and satisfying personal life

I coach a wide variety of faculty and I specialize in working with faculty of color and women in STEM disciplines. Under-represented faculty who form a coaching relationship with me find it particularly helpful in dealing with the following common pressures:

  • Feeling routinely devalued, dismissed, and disrespected on campus
  • Facing pressure to constantly “prove yourself” as a result of not receiving the benefit of the doubt extended to majority colleagues
  • Having your opinions and ideas publicly and consistently marginalized
  • Encountering subtle exclusion from inner circles and informal networks that are critical to professional success
  • Feeling over-whelmed by extra service-related requests related to "solo" status
  • Consistently facing subtle biases and daily micro-aggresions
How Does Coaching Work?
  • We will have a free initial consultation to discuss your goals and determine whether (or not) there is a mutual sense of fit.
  • I work on a semester basis, so interested faculty purchase a twelve week package of coaching sessions ($2500 per semester, payable in full at the beginning of the term)
  • Each week you call in (via telephone) for a 45-minute individualized session.
  • During the session, we review your previous weeks' progress, discuss problems and concerns that arose during the previous week, and strategize about solutions for the upcoming week.
  • I listen, ask you critical questions, help you to create solutions to your particular problems, and hold you accountable for following through on your action-plans.
PLEASE NOTE [5/1/10]:
I am not accepting any new individual coaching clients at this time. If you are seeking a faculty coach to work with in the near future, please contact my co-author: Tracey Laszloffy
